The GNT was founded in 1921, with an aim of “the provision and support for facilities and activities for the efficiency and well being of service personnel in Gibraltar”. This was achieved in two ways. The old Britannia House in the Queensway was run as good value Short Term Family Accomodation, and any profits made have been donated quarterly to the Gibraltar Amenities Fund. The flats in the old Britannia House were rented at the very reasonable rates to ensure that the any eligible personnel could benefit without application for a Grant to the GAF. This continues at BHBV where the Trustees have currently set this rate per night per flat for 2018 at;

These figures are reviewed annually by the trustees of the GNT, where it was deemed counter productive to charge current market accommodation rates for Britannia House Buena Vista. The rates are kept artificially low to the benefits of us all. Historically the decision to keep prices comparatively low was consciously taken (by the previous trustees), mainly due to the lack of investment in the Old Britannia House, where in its last few years of operation it struggled to meet expected modern accommodation standards.
The new accommodation at BHBV prices remain low although the trustees have been fully focused on Improving standards, whilst also keeping the costs and rates at an affordable standard. We hope you will enjoy BHBV until the New Britannia House in Four Corners is built
